As BlueBox Auctions movesthrough its second year at Settle Victoria Hall, auctioneer JohnRobinsonhas already begun to notice certain trends emerging. Adding to the pleasant and bustling atmosphere, there seems to be something to suit every ones taste. Among these are good quality paintings by local artistsand Mouseman items, which always command good prices with strong bidding. For those who don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, inspiration could strike at any moment, with a great range of quirky and unusual itemscroppingup frequently.

 

“Having invested heavily and become familiar with live online bidding, it is so apparent that antique auctioning has been totally revolutionised. Now being safer for both buyers and vendors, and so transparent”said John. “If you’re a collector,the internet opens up a whole new library of items.If you’re a seller,your goods are going to be seen potentiallyacross the globe,not just by saleroom attendees.”

 

Speaking to Johngave mean insight into just how much work is involved in the auction world. From initial meetings with vendors, to collecting items, photographing all entriesandcompletingcondition reports for online bidders. Then,if sold, online items need to be measured,weighed and packaged to be shipped all across the globe. When asked how far afield buyers register, John explained in the last two sales alone bidders have registered from the US,Australia and China. 

 

Staff are always available to appraise your items.There is the open day every Tuesday at Settle Victoria Hall and home visits conducted by appointment.You never know what worthy items you might have at home. One mans trash is another mans treasure, as they say. “I have to emphasise... please, please let me have a look at anything before you get rid of it! I wince sometimes when people tell me of things they have disposed of.
