A lasting commitment to handcrafted quality

and a vision for the future.

Starting with a Saturday job at just 15, and quickly working his way up to the full-time bench joiner position, Robert Polkinghorne has spent over 20 years perfecting his craft and learning all there is to know about Timberworks Joinery. Eight months after taking ownership following the previous owners’ retirement, Robert and his wife and co-owner, Catherine, have begun renovations and rebranding, keen to put their own spin on the well-established joinery firm.

Robert & Catherine are committed to carrying the business forward, making changes to move with the times whilst staying true to its long-lasting reputation for reliability, quality materials, and workmanship of the highest standard. The majority of the team has been with the company since before the ownership change, including Robert’s right-hand man and promising Bench Joiner apprentice, Elliot, and office manager Christine. Passionate about investing in the future, the local people, and the local economy, they have taken on two gifted Site Joiner apprentices, Ethan and Nathan supported by experienced, in-house site joiner, Andy.

Robert’s new role as the owner has brought new responsibilities; as well as manufacturing every product, he is stepping out of his workshop to meet clients, overseeing installations and making sure every customer receives the finest, personal service. Catherine is busy redesigning and renovating the showroom and overseeing the rebranding. The new showroom will focus on specialist doors and windows, including Bespoke Timber designs and a range of UPVC styles.

Robert’s years of experience in traditional joinery methods means there isn’t much he hasn’t made. He and the team are happy to take on any project and have a range of experience with homes and gardens of all shapes, sizes, ages, and styles.

In addition to windows and doors, Timberworks can provide any aspects of bespoke joinery, both interior and exterior, and benefit from a specialist spray booth to create a quality finish in the colour of your choice. From a simple, single window to a stunning garden summerhouse, whatever you’re dreaming of, Timberworks can bring it to life.

“Timberworks Joinery is based on experience and a commitment to handcrafted quality” explains Robert.

“Our passion for building with timber lies in its ability to be used for a multitude of purposes, to great effect.”
